Review - Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017)
If you can get through the crying over Carrie Fisher (we cried 28 times at her wonderful face and grace), The Last Jedi is an entertaining installment in the Star Wars universe; highly camp (there are HUGE nods to Flash Gordon. More please!), funny (porgs. PORGGSSSSSS) and just everything about Oscar Isaac as an action hero. Forget the plot - the rebels are trapped in space. Let's outwit mardy Snoke (Andy Serkis), emo rager Kylo Ren (a phenomenal Adam Driver. Seriously good) and the villainous eyebrowed General Hux (Domhnall Gleeson). Oh, they've caught up with us, we're trapped again! etc... etc...
There's space battles, battles in the ice, Mr Grumpy Pants Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill) training Rey (Daisy Ridley) on a cold island in the middle of nowhere and a cool intergalactic casino. Star Wars obsessives may be moaning but if you take it for what it is, it's a whole lot of fun and never tires once during its 152 minutes.
The heart of the film is Isaac's ace fighter pilot - 'fly boy' - Poe Dameron; he's definitely the new Han and his relationship with BB-8 is beyond adorable. Adam Driver is menancing, confused with his destiny and seriously buff in a strange scene of erotic telepathy with Rey. There's also some great one-offs from Laura Dern as Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo (lilac hair envy) and a sneaky Benicio del Toro as a naughty underworld codebreaker.
Where will Episode IX take us in 2019? We're excited to find out.
Watch it for: Porgs. PORGGGGGGSSSSSSSSSS
Watch out for: One of Kylo Ren's moods
8/10 BB-8 bleeppppppppppppppppppps
